The Strength of God's Hand: A Lesson from Paper Plates
Paper plates are perfect for a simple picnic or meal. However, if you load them with too much food, they often don’t hold up. They lack the strength to carry heavy or juicy items, and once they become soggy, they’re practically useless!
But one thing Christians can always count on is the strength of our Lord Jesus Christ to hold us firmly in His hands. Regardless of our situation—whether we’re messy, dirty, or feeling weak—He holds us in the palm of His hand. In John 10:28-29, Jesus promises: "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand."
This powerful truth assures us that no one can snatch us from His hand. Even when we feel like squirming or struggling, nothing can cause us to fall from His grip.
When I held our first child, I felt like a paper plate, my hands full and trembling with responsibility. She was so small, so fragile, and so precious. The last thing I wanted was to drop her or let her slip from my hands. Since that moment, we’ve been blessed with another daughter and four grandchildren. I had the honor of holding each of them just moments after their birth. While they were small and fragile, none of them ever slipped from my hands.
As they grew, they began to squirm and wiggle, and holding them became more challenging. But, just like my children, we too can squirm, wiggle, and struggle in our walk with God. The good news is, even though we may struggle, God will never drop us or let us fall. His grip on us is unwavering.
When we go through difficult days—feeling alone, stressed, or at the end of our rope—we need to remember that we are securely held in the palm of God’s hand. Psalm 23:6 says: "Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house (hand) of the Lord forever."
No matter how much we squirm, no matter how tough life gets, we are safe and secure in God's powerful, loving hands.
