The Gift of Friendship: Why Good Friends Are Like Country Ham

Good friends are like country ham – you love it when it’s in front of you and enjoy every bite, but when it’s gone or not around, you’re left thirsty and longing for something to drink!

Somehow, God made us in such a way that we function better with friends. While I’ve enjoyed the adventures and opportunities to live in different places and minister to many people, I still miss so many of them.

I miss the laughter, the jokes, and the late-night outings. I miss the adventurous, fun-filled days, and I miss the times we shared our tears. Those tears felt a little sweeter with a friend beside me.

Never forget your friends. If I’m one of yours, call me, give me a hard time, and visit me on the porch this spring. Don’t just ask me to visit – tell me too. Life is too short to spend a rainy night alone or a Saturday morning in bed.

I’m thirsty! And there are a couple of friends I’m going to stop thinking about and finally visit.

We often talk about gifts, and while the greatest gift of all is Christ, friends are truly a gift too. So, love your friends and make sure they know you’re still there for them!

Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."
