"Remember the Alamo": A Battle Cry for Help
On February 24th, 1836, the Defenders of the Alamo called for help.
As we all know, help did not arrive in time to assist the Defenders of the Alamo, and the result was devastating. Many lives were lost, and the Alamo fell. However, history tells us that Sam Houston, leading a group of Texan troops, defeated Santa Anna’s forces later in May of that year. In that epic battle, 910 Texan soldiers fought off 1,250 Mexican troops. The famous battle cry that echoed across the battlefield was, "Remember the Alamo!"
In Psalm 121:2, the writer makes a powerful statement about where true help comes from: “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” This could be considered the Psalmist's battle cry. He was wise enough to recognize that, without the help of the Lord, he would be doomed.
Like many, I often seek help from others—at work, at church, and at home. But over the years, I’ve learned that my greatest help comes from the Lord. In fact, I’ve found myself praying for help from the Lord even when there doesn’t seem to be any immediate issue at hand. It’s as though I instinctively turn to Him for guidance and strength.
Psalm 46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” I am deeply grateful for this truth, yet I still ask for His help in every circumstance, knowing that my strength comes from Him.
