The Cost of Convenience: A Call to Live Like Jesus

Is it not a matter of "convenience" when the Pope suddenly declares that contraceptives are "acceptable" to help slow the spread of Zika?

Is it not a matter of "convenience" when politicians suddenly change their stance on issues like gun control or abortion?

Is it not a matter of "convenience" when Christians send their money to missions, yet overlook the hungry and hurting in their own communities?

Is it not a matter of "convenience" when parents send their children to school and church without teaching them at home how to behave and live according to biblical principles?

Is it not a matter of "convenience" when we tell someone to speak with the preacher, instead of sharing our own personal testimony of what God has done for us?

The Path of Convenience vs. the Path of Truth

Do we not often take the path of "convenience" instead of the path of consistent truth, regardless of the cost? Are we guilty of choosing the easy way over the right way?

It takes real courage to walk the walk and live the life that Jesus Christ calls us to live. I know I have often fallen into the trap of choosing the road of "convenience" instead of standing firm in what is right. Sometimes it's fear—fear that others will reject me. Other times, it's simply because standing for truth requires hard work and the willingness to face opposition. I, like many others, sometimes choose the road of "convenience" because it’s simply easier.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example of Living Right, Not Conveniently

Jesus did not give in or bend when it came to matters of great importance. Yet, He didn’t create rules or regulations that could be twisted to fit the needs of the majority or gain popularity. Jesus didn’t live a life of "convenience"; He lived a life that was right.

Oh Lord, show me the "right" stands to take and the "right" choices to make. And once You show me, please help me follow them—carefully, consistently, and without compromise.

As we navigate life, it’s easy to fall into the trap of choosing what’s convenient over what’s right. However, Jesus provides the ultimate example of living with integrity, standing firm in truth, and not bending to the pressures of culture or popularity. Let’s strive to live as He did—choosing the path of truth over the path of convenience.
