Preparing for Persecution: A Christian’s Guide to Staying Strong in Faith

Swapping lanes on the way home from dinner last night startled my wife. It was completely unexpected and caused a brief moment of anxiety. To be honest, I think she had started drifting off to sleep, and she was caught off guard. This moment reminded me of a conversation I had earlier that day.

I had the special privilege of meeting a recipient of my Spiritual Spotlights whom I had never met before. He was an interesting man of God. As we talked, we discovered that not only do we share a deep love for Jesus Christ, but we also have several similar thoughts and ideas. One thing we both strongly agreed on is that Christians should not be surprised as the persecution of believers grows. This persecution is already spreading beyond the Middle East and Europe—and it’s now reaching our own continent.

As we witness changes in laws, walls being built, guns being carried, and sermons being preached, it’s important to stay alert. The time is coming, and it will be unlike anything we’ve experienced before. Christianity is already beginning to feel the effects of negativity. But don’t be caught off guard! Judgment is on the rise.

Isaiah 13:11 puts it this way: “I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.” It almost feels as if God were speaking directly to my homeland—America!

While I don't know when, how, or where this persecution will manifest, I do know that it’s essential to work on strengthening my personal relationship with God and to keep my spiritual armor in top condition. The battle hasn’t even begun yet!
