How to Make Wise Choices: A Biblical Perspective on Decision-Making

Choices are made every day, and their outcomes leave us with countless emotions—ranging from laughter to tears, from celebration to fear. After we make our choices, we often find ourselves facing a multitude of questions. One of the greatest challenges in life is learning how to make wise decisions. According to Proverbs 9:10, wisdom begins with a reverence for God:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."

The Key to Making Wise Choices

To make wise choices, we must first fix our focus on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This can be challenging when making everyday decisions—whether purchasing a car, buying a home, or choosing a life partner—because we all have unique preferences and varying levels of patience.

Personally, I have made poor choices simply because I was unwilling to wait, rushing into decisions that ultimately led to regret. I know a young woman who, from childhood, had one deep desire: to become a mother. Her longing sometimes caused her to make impulsive choices, leading to heartache not only for herself but for others as well. Unfortunately, her story is not unique—many young people rush into relationships, letting dreams and emotions take the lead rather than seeking God’s guidance.

Surrendering to God’s Plan

The only way to consistently make the right choices is by fully surrendering our lives to Christ. As the timeless hymn "I Surrender All" reminds us, true surrender is not easy, but it is deeply rewarding.

So, let us slow down, reflect more, and pray fervently. Instead of following our own plans, may we seek His plan—one that leads to wisdom, peace, and fulfillment.

James 1:5 (NKJV)
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

James 1:5 reminds us that wisdom is not something we have to figure out on our own—God generously gives it to those who ask. This ties perfectly into the message of the blog, emphasizing that making wise choices starts with seeking God's guidance. When we surrender our decisions to Him through prayer, He provides the clarity and understanding we need to choose wisely.
