Living Beyond Palm Sunday: Embracing Faith in Everyday Life
Palm Sunday is always a meaningful time for me and many other Christians, as we reflect on the powerful events that mark the beginning of Holy Week. It’s a moment of celebration and reverence—a time when we remember the crowds shouting “Hosanna!” as Jesus entered Jerusalem.
But then, Monday comes.
The morning after Palm Sunday feels, for many, like just another start to the week. People head to work, cars and trucks rush by, and the rhythm of daily life resumes. I imagine it was the same for many in the crowd that day in Jerusalem. One moment they were joyfully praising Jesus, and the next, they returned to their regular routines.
Yes, some of Jesus' closest followers remained with Him—listening, learning, watching, and praying—but many, I suspect, went back to life as usual. And here’s where we can learn something important.
As Christians, our daily routines shouldn't be separate from our spiritual lives. The practices we embrace on Sundays—including Palm Sunday—should continue throughout the week. Our everyday lives should include prayer, Bible reading, and praise, just as they do on special holy days. We may not carry a palm branch with us, but the spirit of worship can remain in our hearts.
It’s not about neglecting our responsibilities. We still have jobs to do, families to care for, and errands to run. But throughout our day, Jesus Christ is with us. We can whisper short prayers during breaks, set aside time for Bible reading before or after work, and praise God even while folding laundry or mowing the lawn.
Christianity isn’t like a faucet we turn on and off. It’s a 24/7 way of life—a continual relationship with Christ. As 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
That’s the call: everything we do, every moment of every day, should be done for His glory. It’s not always easy, but it’s the path we’re called to walk.
Let’s carry the spirit of Palm Sunday with us—every day.
