Sweetness in Every Form: A Reflection on God’s Word
Sweetness comes in many forms. Yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the wonderful, sticky sweetness of the best kind. I was spending time with my granddaughter, and on top of that, my daughter and I made homemade chocolate candy.
A year ago, we eagerly anticipated our granddaughter's arrival. My daughter and I traditionally make chocolate candy only at Christmas, but now, we’re preparing to celebrate the milestone of our little one turning one.
When we think of sweetness, it's easy to think of a child or grandchild. It’s also common to associate it with a special food. But in Psalm 119:103, David shares, “How sweet are Your words to my taste!” David didn’t just hear the Word of God; he fed on it. He chewed on it.
Many sincere Christians read a Bible passage and feel accomplished. However, this verse in Psalm reminds me that I not only need to read the Word of God—I need to feast on it. I need to smell it, savor it, and truly dwell on it. If I don’t, it becomes nothing more than words on a page passing through my mind.
The Holy Spirit can use the Word of God to nourish every part of our lives—if we allow ourselves the opportunity to focus and meditate on it.
As I turn to the Word of God, I pray that He guides me to the parts that are sweet and filled with the nourishment I need for my growth.
