Eggs, Chickens, and Spiritual Growth: Why You Need to Consume God's Word
Egg prices are on the rise, and one reason could be that we’re eating too many chickens! It’s simple math: eggs come from chickens, and if we limit the number of chickens, we limit the number of eggs. For me, the solution is clear—stop consuming so many chickens.
The same principle applies to spiritual growth. Just like we won’t grow in our relationship with Christ without engaging with His Word, we cannot expect to deepen our faith without actively consuming it. If you want to grow in Christ, you need to immerse yourself in His divine Word. This can be achieved through hearing the Word, studying the Word, meditating on the Word, and memorizing the Word.
Matthew 4:4 says, “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” In essence, we are told to consume God’s Word as a vital part of our lives.
I recently saw a humorous reel depicting a woman carrying her Bible around like it was her cell phone. While it was funny, it highlighted a powerful lesson for Christians. We won’t leave home without our cell phones, yet we often let the Bible sit untouched from Sunday to Sunday, collecting dust.
Psalm 119:11 reminds us, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Perhaps it’s time to dust off our Bibles, taste the Word, and discover how sweet it truly is. As Psalm 119:103 says, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
