The Power of Prayer: Communicating with the King of Kings

Recently, I had a lengthy and meaningful conversation with a young man in London, England. During our discussion, he needed to share some information with me, so he sent an email. Within seconds, I received it, and we talked about its contents. The speed and ease with which we can share information and communicate across the world are truly amazing. No matter where we are, we have the ability to connect instantly. However, communicating with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is even faster—and much simpler.

I couldn't see the person I was speaking with in London because we hadn’t FaceTimed each other. In the same way, we don’t have the ability to FaceTime our Lord, Jesus Christ, yet we can communicate with Him effortlessly—simply through our thoughts. We don’t need to use our voices or speak loudly for Him to hear us. And unlike human connections, our line to God is open 24/7.

Why Don’t We Pray More?

Prayer is a special gift that we have as children of God. Psalm 34:15 reminds us, "The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry." If this is true, then why don’t we pray more?

A few possible reasons include:

  • We are distracted by daily life.

  • We doubt that He truly listens.

  • We haven’t seen immediate results from our prayers.

  • We feel discouraged, bored, or tired of trying.

  • We lack the discipline to make prayer a habit.

Many of us have heard the phrase, “Be careful what you pray for because you might just get it!” But perhaps we need to take a step back and embrace the faith of a child—especially when we pray. Instead of trying to tell God what to do, we should ask Him to help us accept what He allows to happen in and around us.

Prayer should never become just a list of our wants. Rather, it should be a time of gratitude for our countless blessings. It is also an opportunity to share our hurts, hopes, fears, and even our dreams—because He is always listening. Isaiah 65:24 reassures us, "Before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear."

A Prayer Request

As you spend time in prayer, please remember to lift up myself, my assistant Amanda Nash, and the ministry efforts of Spiritual Spotlights. Your prayers are deeply appreciated as we continue to share God's love and encouragement with others.

Blessings,
Gene Vincent
