Finding Purpose in Crowded Days: A Reflection on the Ministry of Jesus
The last few days have felt particularly crowded, but I paused for a moment and reminded myself of the importance of taking time to think and pray, even amidst the busyness.
As the disciples went about their daily lives with Jesus, they often experienced crowded days. Some were crowded with people, like the day when Jesus fed 5,000 men, along with their families, with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Other days were crowded with teachings, such as when Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount.
It must have been fascinating to walk with Jesus during these crowded days of ministry. However, when I experience crowded days, they are rarely filled with ministry alone. Often, they are packed with work, family time, and various other activities. My crowded days may include a mix of tasks, errands, and commitments. In fact, I’ve had crowded days where it feels like nothing was truly accomplished.
I was talking to a friend recently—who is a small business owner—and he shared that he actually prefers a busy, crowded day over a slow one. On a busy day, time flies, but on a slow day, you’re constantly checking the clock and usually end up feeling exhausted.
Today, I pray that I experience another crowded day—not crowded with distractions and tasks, but crowded with real ministry and purpose.
