Do the Little Things Matter? Finding Forgiveness Through Jesus Christ

Do the little things count? Does it matter if a word slips out here or there? Does it matter if we’re just two miles over the speed limit? Will it hurt if we miss a prayer once in a while? Is it a big deal if we glance at a picture just a little longer than we should? Will it matter if we forget to say "Hello," "Goodbye," or "I love you"? Does it make a big difference if we speak a bit harshly? Is it a big deal if we pick up a piece of gum and don’t pay for it?

The list goes on and on—the little things that we often overlook or don’t think much about. We’re all guilty of overlooking the small details and not worrying about them. But then, when we read the words found in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, we’re reminded:

"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil."

We may not give much thought to our actions, but the Scriptures clearly note that every deed—not just some, not a few, but every tiny action, thought, and movement—will be judged. To be honest, that’s a scary thought. The Lord God, in all of His holiness and purity, will judge every single thing.

Therefore, we are all guilty. Isaiah makes this plain in Isaiah 64:6:

"All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind, our sins sweep us away."

Whether we like it or not, every single one of us is a sinner, stained by our actions. So before we point our fingers at someone else, we must remember our own status—it’s no better. It may be different, but not better.

Before we can begin the journey of truly knowing Jesus Christ personally, we must first accept the truth about the ugliness within ourselves. Only then can we seek the only real, lasting, and eternal help: the help that comes from Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:9 states:

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

The "He" in this verse refers to Jesus Christ.

The sad truth is that many people, who may only be guilty of "little things," don’t feel the need for help in their lives. Many don’t believe in Jesus Christ or recognize their need for His guidance.

Today, take a moment to reflect on the small things in your life that may not be right. Then, think about the one and only person who can help you with all things, big or small: Jesus.
