The Importance of Watching Where You Walk: A Lesson from Proverbs

Last night, I was sitting on the porch as the sun went down, and my sock-covered feet began to feel the chill of the evening air.

Cold feet may be good for penguins, but not for me!

In Proverbs 4:26, it says, "Watch the path of your feet, and your ways will be established." Essentially, this verse encourages us to be mindful of where we place our feet.

As a boy, I once found myself messing around with some lumber and nails. At the time, I didn’t pay attention to where I was stepping. Suddenly, pain shot through my foot and up my leg—I had stepped on a nail. Needless to say, since then, I've been much more cautious about where I place my feet.

The writer of Proverbs wasn’t concerned with nails—he was more concerned with the path we choose in life. Stepping on a nail may hurt temporarily, but stepping into sin can leave lasting consequences. That’s why I pray for wisdom to carefully watch where I walk and place my feet today.

Perhaps the best course of action would be to let God go before me and simply walk in His steps.
